PSYCH-K is a simple, yet powerful technique that uses psychology, neuroscience, and kinesiology to rewire the subconscious mind and overcome limiting beliefs.

What is PSYCH-K?
Founded by Rob Williams, M.A. and endorsed by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D, PSYCH-K is a series of processes that integrates the left and right hemispheres of the brain to form new beliefs on the subconscious level.
The conscious VS. the subconscious mind
According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of The Biology of Belief and champion of epigenetics, the subconscious mind can process 40 million bits of data per second, while the conscious mind can only process 40.
This makes the subconscious mind 1 million times more powerful than the conscious mind, driving the majority of your daily habits, behaviors, and decisions.
In fact, neuroscientists estimate that 95% of your reality is created by the subconscious mind.
What does this mean for you?
Negative beliefs within the subconscious mind create self-sabotaging behaviors to reinforce these beliefs. For example, if your parents told you “money doesn’t grow on trees,” your subconscious mind will sabotage your efforts to generate financial success no matter how hard you work.
Why does this happen?
The majority of your subconscious beliefs were imprinted from the third trimester of your mother’s pregnancy, until you were 7 years old. During this time, your subconscious was downloading vast amounts of information to quickly learn how to adapt and survive within your environment.
Unfortunately, many of the beliefs you picked up during this time are negative, unuseful, and outdated.
PSYCH-K works to reprogram these beliefs by shifting your brain into the same state of super learning you experienced as an infant. In this state, you can rapidly reprogram these negative beliefs into positive ones that support the reality you want to create.

PSYCH-K and Functional Medicine
I decided to integrate PSYCH-K into my functional medicine coaching when I began noticing the connection between the events in my client’s timelines, and the progression of their disease.
This helped me understand that although genes, diet, and environment play a significant role in our health, they aren’t the only factors.
I had clients that were doing significant work, but still weren’t seeing results. After trying everything from diet changes to gut rebuilds to looking for toxins and infections, I started investigating the impact limiting beliefs were playing in their healing journey.
According to epigenetics, subconscious beliefs can influence your mind on a cellular level. All emotions create chemicals in the brain that are passed through the blood into your cells, affecting the way your genes are expressed.
This is a simplified explanation of how traumatic events, negative emotions, and limiting beliefs can create disease in the body, leading to health conditions that further reinforce these beliefs.
Integrating PSYCH-K into functional medicine coaching can give you the framework to heal beyond the physical body, by changing the mindset that’s keeping you stuck.
How to do PSYCH-K: Different PSYCH-K techniques
In PSYCH-K, we use a variety of exercises (called balances) to rewire the subconscious mind in a simple, efficient, and non-invasive way.
Muscle testing is a technique used in traditional kinesiology to communicate with the subconscious mind through physiological responses in the body. It’s like asking your subconscious questions, and receiving an answer through the contracting or loosening of the muscles.
When we’re given a positive or high vibrational thought, our muscles go strong. When we’re given a negative or low vibrational thought, our muscles go weak. PSYCH-K facilitators use this to test different beliefs to see how your body will respond.
Whole brain balances
Whole brain integration processes are a series of poses and movements designed to integrate the rational left hemisphere and the emotional right hemisphere of the brain. By integrating these two parts, you can solidify the new beliefs you want to rewire into your subconscious mind. Practicing these techniques can also help your body adapt to stress, and process uncomfortable or painful emotions more easily.
The goal of stress transformation is exactly as it sounds- to change the way your body responds to stress. The subconscious mind often filters information based on traumatic events from the past to inform perceived stress about the future.
By rewiring the way your body responds to past events, you can change your present day stress response so you no longer feel triggered in the moment. This can help you overcome phobias, addiction, and the sabotaging behavior holding you back.
PSYCH-K uses permission protocols to “ask permission” of the subconscious mind before changing any limiting beliefs. This differs from other therapy techniques as PSYCH-K never assumes that every limiting belief needs to be changed. PSYCH-K believes that some thought patterns are actually there to teach us important lessons, or serve us in other ways. By asking the subconscious mind permission before integrating new beliefs, you’re setting a strong intention with your facilitator to make changes that serve your highest good, instead of trading one symptom for another.
Permission protocols sounded a little esoteric to me at first, but once I learned more about their purpose, they’ve helped me understand the immense power of this work.
Sometimes our health issues manifest as the body’s way of protecting us from something deeper. By uncovering what those things are, we can discover the ROOT of the issue, and untangle the web of subconscious programming keeping us trapped.

Similar to affirmations, PSYCH-K uses belief statements to imprint positive beliefs into the subconscious mind. You can practice them by writing your belief statements in first person repeatedly on a piece of paper. The idea is that if a belief statement is reinforced in the conscious mind enough, it will influence new behaviors, which can create new beliefs on the subconscious level.
An example of a belief statement is “My body is healing itself more everyday.”
Belief statements are often followed by action steps, which are agreed upon behavior changes or goals the person agrees to complete in between sessions.
Becoming a PSYCH-K facilitator has been an incredibly rewarding way to grow as a holistic health practitioner.
Combining the foundations of functional medicine and PSYCH-K into my sessions has helped my clients uncover parts of themselves that have been holding them back on their own healing journey.
